Fitness, Food and Focus - For the Summer

Fitness

Defined for the summer.  Muscle definition comes from the combination of muscle tone and fat loss.  To achieve this resistance training is essential.  There are ways of doing resistance training that give you a cv workout at the same time.  Try circuit based sessions, moving from upper body to lower body exercises in succession.  This will keep the heart rate elevated and make the heart work harder in shunting the blood up and down your body to those working muscles.  Depending on your level of experience explosive exercises, plyometrics and high intensity whole body exercises can be utilised for maximum benefit.  There is always something to suit the individual so the best advice to be offered is to speak to a trainer to find out what is best for you.

 

Food

If you are going to look good on the beach, then having healthy, glowing skin is a must.  Your skin is only made from the food that you eat, so good food helps towards good skin.  Essential fatty acids otherwise known as omega 3 and omega 6 can help to build good skin as they are the basis for all the cells on our body.  They are found in fish, nuts and seeds.  Nuts and seeds are also a good source of zinc, which is also a vital nutrient of healthy skin. 

Fruit and vegetables are also an essential ingredient for that beach glow. Fresh fruit and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals which help support the skin, they also contain antioxidants which can help fight free radicals which can age us and give us wrinkles, they contain fibre which keeps our bowel movements frequent and regular and so keeps our insides clean, and they contain water which can help keep you hydrated. 5-a-day is the UK government’s recommendation for the number of portions of fruit and vegetables, the World Health Organisation recommends 5 -10, Australia recommends 7 and in Japan they recommend 10.  A portion is defined as 80g.

 

Focus

Creating a new image for summer, be it for the beach or for the general summer period, think about this, confidence for the summer comes from working out and having the right nutrition to get the best possible body, but will that give you the total confidence you need? As people we spend a lot of time living from what it is we are pretending to be, and our true selves become lost. So instead to find your true self and the confidence you will need to move forward, let go of who you are pretending to be and simply be yourself. When getting what you want stops being about you and becomes more simply about what you want, the results you are looking for will come quickly and effortlessly
