Monitor the results that a specific programme is targeting to achieve. It is important to have a good understanding of what indicators you are looking for. Programmes should be periodised lasting 4-6 weeks to achieve a specific goal then changed to target the next intermediary goal. This not only offers the body the diversity it needs but you’ll actually achieve your ultimate goal far quicker.
Too often you see people give up on their goals because they think they are not getting anywhere. This is wrong for 2 reasons:
1. Giving up will definitely not get the desired results.
2. Often people have had great success but they have not been monitoring the results correctly or appropriately. All too often the scales are used inappropriately – weight is often used to gauge success but it can be totally inappropriate. If you want to fit in a dress, measure your dress size, if you want to get stronger, measure your strength, if you want to lose fat measure your body composition! People have, in fact, had great success without realizing it because they have measured the wrong thing.
Finding what is right for you and your goals is essential. A good way to do this is to keep a food diary and score your meals based on how you feel with regard to hunger, energy levels and mood. This can be used to find out what works for you. What has to be understood or believed is that if you get it right, results are guaranteed. Whilst there is a need to tailor a diet to the individual it is necessary that you must understand that no-one is so unique that results are impossible. That can not be an excuse. When you set out towards a goal you can either believe you can reach it, or you can believe you can’t reach it. Your beliefs are often a self-fulfilling prophecy so it is better to believe you can reach your goals so stay positive!
Do you want to be the best, or do you want the best for you?
What is a goal and what is a result? People see a goal and set off on a journey to achieve that goal, however not many people will arrive at the destination and their goal will never be achieved. Why? Because they see their goals as the final destination, but the thing to remember here is that there should be a few smaller goals on the journey to set, once you get the results of these small goals, then move onto the next one. That way you will keep motivated and moving toward the ultimate goal you wish to achieve. So concentrate on the smaller goals and results, if you do that then the larger goal may come quicker than you think. Therefore, set goals that are best for you and for the person you can be.
